A numerical semigroup is just a subset of the nonnegative integers (N), that is closed under addition, contains 0 and has finite complement in N. Despite being so simple mathematical objects, they hide very interesting combinatorial and computational problems. My aim is to use the GAP packages ‘numericalsgps’ and ‘intpic’ to introduce the numerical semigroups, and refer some of the challenges that in the recent past captured my attention.
